UN CALLS FOR REPEAL OF ONTARIO'S PREVENTION OF UNIONISM ACT

Since its introduction in the spring of 1998 SPHRE has been leading opposition to Bill 22, Ontario's Prevention of Unionism Act. This Act, which forbids workfare recepients from organizing and bargaining collectively over their interests in the province's workfare program, was found by the UN's Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to be "a clear violiation" of international human rights standards which Canada and all of its provincial governments had pledged to uphold. To this point, however, the provincial government has refused to withdraw it.

Please consider expressing your opposition to this action which deeply offends the international human rights consensus and thus must be of concern to everyone.
